The Demon Creed A Demon Outlaws Novel Paula Altenburg 9781622662500 Books

I really liked this series closer, the half demon assassin leading man, Creed, was really great - one of his 'super powers' is being likable. The romance was a slow build even though the initial connection from Creed's side is the instinctual 'mine' that's not normally handled anywhere near this well in the majority of paranormal romances. What really makes this work is that while he's hers, Creed treasures his heroine enough to allow her to make the choice as to whether she wants to claim him as hers. The leading lady Nieve, initially seems frail but there is a hidden kernel of strength within her and just as something about Creed wakes her up to the piece of the past she's forgotten, his support allow her to build that strength - in a world where women have very little power.

It was fun to see the pair from the first book play a part in the wrap up and we finally get to learn some of Scratch's secrets. Great finish to this post apocalyptic old west-ish paranormal romance.

Review for The Demon Creed by Paula Altenburg

The Demon Creed, by Paula Altenburg, is the third and final book in her series, Demon Outlaws.
It can be read as a stand alone book, but I really don't suggest reading it in this manner. I believe the books in this series were intended to and should be read in order. Reading The Demon Creed first, I was confused about the setting. The main characters and the plot were were developed so that I was able to enjoy the book, even though the setting wasn't quite clear. Additionally, characters from previous books appear in this final book and although the author does a great job with their development in this book to prevent any confusion, these secondary characters would have been much better appreciated and understood had I read the books in order.

I loved this book. I love all things Paranormal, and demons are my favorite. I adored Creed and added him to my book boyfriend list. The story is so much more than sex. In fact, there are only several sex scenes and they are very short and plain. That was one thing I loved about the book. It spent more time on the situation and allowed time for the main characters to get to know one another. It allowed time for them to work out internal issues as each one had many issues to get through before they could allow themselves to fall in love with the other. During this time there was some action but not much. I personally did not find this part boring and it was difficult to put down the book. Unfortunately, many reviews consider this part of the book as slow. I suggest you one click and make your own opinion. There's something special about falling in love over time and through a process, especially when both partners have so many issues to work through before it happens. I loved watching that journey unfold.

Most of the book occurs during a physical journey. Parts of this journey were actually funny. This is the point that I finally figured out that the setting was futuristic. As Creed is pointing out historical sites, he explains them to Nieve and the explanations are of our world as it exists TODAY. I really loved this aspect of the book and found them worthy of several LOL moments.

This journey also served to set up a very climatic ending and OMG what an ending it was. I'm not talking about a 5-10 page ending but rather 30% of the book. I started getting chills as soon as it started and ended up in tears, both of which were happy and sad. I really really wish I could give more details but I don't do spoilers. You really need to one click and experience it all yourself . I was saddened at the very end because it ended. Obviously, with this book being the final in the series, there was no cliffhanger and it will not rip your heart out.

There were some writing and editing problems, sometimes to the point that it caused some confusion. This is the only reason I gave it a 4 rating rather than a 5. Regardless, I would highly recommend this book but with with a strong encouragement to start at the beginning and read in order. I fully intend to backtrack to read the entire series. I've already one clicked the prequel and will proceed forward with the complete series... I need to give a warning that is in no way meant to be against the author but rather to protect the author from bad reviews merely because this just wasn't the book for particular readers. If you need an action filled book with a lot of erotic sex rather than a deep and meaningful romance, this is not the book for you. Please don't read it and in turn write a bad review. This is a terrific book, a great romance and I loved it. I also look forward to reading other great works of art by this author, Paula Altenburg.

This is book 3 in the Demon Outlaws series, but don't let that concern you too much. You can pretty much jump right in and not be too lost. This series is set in the future (not entirely sure how far into the future, but at least a couple of centuries, though it's lower tech than the modern world thanks to demon attacks) on Earth, though not the Earth as we know it, again thanks to the aforementioned demons.

The demons were just banished recently, but they left behind their offspring and can still interact in various ways. Nieve is the mother of such a child and the demon who fathered said child wants her back. Creed is (essentially) a gunslinger, though he works for the Godseekers (hiding the fact that he too is half demon) who are trying to eradicate half-demons from the world.

Sounds complicated? It is, but falling into the world is just part of the wonderful charm of this book. I felt completely absorbed into the futuristic/fantasy aspects of this book and I liked the interplay between Nieve and Creed. It wasn't a rushed romance, or a forced one, in any way. It was enjoyable hearing references to our current world (Safeway, the grocery store, is specifically mentioned) and seeing how the world might reshape itself in the face of centuries of demon-rule.

There were references and events involving (I assume) characters from the first two books and their continuing stories. Even without knowing those stories, I was able to accept and understand everything.

So - since I obviously loved this book, why not 5 gargoyles? Simply because of the Nieve/child issue. I do not believe it was ever explained just how/why Nieve forgot. her. child. for a year! I don't get it, I don't understand it, and I'm willing to accept it, I just wish there'd been a coherent explanation for just how he slipped her mind for so long. Maybe one was offered and in my uber-fast reading (I couldn't put the book down easily for any length of time), I missed it, but I don't know.

Anyway, check out the book. I know I'm gonna put the other books in the series on my to-be-read list!

Thank you Ms. Altenburg for the book!
