I've read some reviews of this book that knock its lack of twists and suspense, but some of us don't need the drama. This warm, relaxing, feel-good story kept me engaged throughout, without constant rolling of my eyes at stupid faux-pas and trumped up melodrama. This is a tale of reasonably intelligent, functional adults finding true partners. I vastly appreciate finding a book of intertwined love stories that didn't make me exasperated half the time and wondering what the heck they saw in each other. I highly recommend this for anyone who just wants to enjoy reading about happy, healthy people falling in love.

Characters in this book are really well written and have a bit more depth to them than the usual chick lit books. The attention to detail was great - I enjoyed the morning chalk board quotes. Setting in Greenwich Village is really nice as well. I will be looking out for Sandra's next novel.
Sometimes you just need a happily ever after story and Take the Cake certainly delivers!! Michael & Kate's romance is as sweet as some of the cupcakes described within the book, and I certainly love the daily quote/cupcake war that Wren & Kate had going. If you're looking for a lighthearted, feel good story without all the angst that is present in most books these days then I suggest you give Take the Cake a read.
I enjoyed the book enough.. but it was SO LONG. Not only in word count but it seemed to drag on. The subject was good and I was excited to see where this cupcake/writer thing went but nothing exciting happened. It's sweet, happy and predictable. Feel good- ish. No drama, no suspense.. Just eh.
An innocent love story that kind of didn't live up to it's potential. Interesting characters wither interesting lives and backgrounds but nothing interesting happening to them. All possible twists and turns in sight left unused by the author leaving me disappointed and rather frustrated. Would have liked to see a little more effort put into this one. Cute story with nothing more to it.
This book was on my recommended list. Overall, the story was cute. The characters were extremely well-developed. The author did a wonderful job of creating characters with unique characteristics which fit into the overall plot wonderfullly. Each character had a different relationship with each other that just seemed to work.
The plot of the story developed over the course of the entire book. For me, it was a little too slow. The first quarter to third of the book seemed very slow. I understand the author wanted to develop the story so it would unfold, but it was slow. The book picked up finally, but seemed to slow down towards the end again. I enjoyed the book and would recommend it.
If you want a complete funny happy romantic read then pick this book up.
The characters (all of them) are wonderfully witty. A lot of the time I don't like when there is to many stories going on but not with Take The Cake. The main story in the book is straight out LOVE. Romantic love, Family love & Friendly love.
For Kate and Michael's story was a light hearted fall in love all the way type of story. You really follow this couple from start to finish. It isn't a quick wham bam I love you....you travel with them as they fall in love.
And as for Wren and David the book left me wanting more. They were the co-couple but their story was just as intriguing as Kate and Michaels. I loved David's fresh look at romance while Wren didn't think love for herself was possible!
If you want to feel happy and read a book with no angst or fighting or betrayal this is it. And honestly sometimes you need a book like this!
I was quite a happy camper after reading this book. Enjoyed it tremendously!!!!!
I really enjoyed this book from start to finish. The characters and the story are very genuine, and easy to read.
Kate and Michael are destined to be together, as are the other couples in the book. It is fun to watch as their associations develop over time and how many are intertwined outside the primary friendships.
The backstory which is explained and develops between Kate and Tom is very believable, especially in today's world. I will not divulge it as I hate reviews with spoilers!
My reason for not giving five stars is because of the chapters and their length/breaks. I found that many chapters were too long and not break at good places, and this made the book harder to read. Also, the intimacy details were curious and inconsistent - even descriptions of kisses sometimes seemed odd. Just my opinion, of course, but that is what a review is all about.
All in all, this is a worthwhile read if you enjoy the romantic genre. Pleasant, no big drama, and all ends well. Definitely a feel good after you read it kind of book!
